congratulations must go to BBQWhiskyBeer (based
at the Wargrave Arms, Marylebone, London) who where named the ‘Great
British Rib Champions’ at Ribstock 2013 on Saturday 22nd June..
Ribstock
(a name which I understand echoes a famous pop festival!) is the
British celebration of ribs and all things BBQ. It is contested
by ten of the best rib chefs and restaurants in the country.
Sam
Daffin and his team at BBQWhiskyBeer were named the champions for
their Mesquite-smoked Black Angus beef rib with Texas rub &
BBQ Whisky Beer sauce. Their secret being that all their meat is
marinated for days in Somerset
Cider Vinegar!
All
the £50 tickets for Ribstock were snapped up in advance and
there was much meat munching and licking of sticky fingers (before
the Glastonbury appearance of The Stones) amongst the crowds packed
into the Merchant Yard in Hackney.
The
Judges included Angela Hartnett (best known for her Michelin-starred
Murano Restaurant in Mayfair), Jonathan Downey (the founding father
of Tweat Up and a champion of the London Street Food scene) and
Channel 4 ‘Cook yourself thin’ presenter Gizzi Erskine.
